David Larstein
David Larstein
Etcher and Graphic Designer
Artists, in order to pay the bills, must often wear many hats. As Francine’s husband and partner, David etches the knives with Francine designs. The rest of the time he teaches piano, singing, and songwriting, maintains his own music website (www.larsteinmusic.com), and has written, performed, and produced sixteen albums of his own music since 1990.
David’s background in steel included twenty five years working in his father’s forge shop where he learned machining, grinding, polishing and other skills that later proved useful in Francine’s business. His help with her work, and his encouragement and belief in her abilities have been foundational to her continuing long career. Together, from 1995 - 2001, they ran the David Boye Knives Gallery in Davenport, California, and they still work together in most aspects of their business.
He and Francine also collaborate on the design and layout of their promotional emails and brochures. Together, they have grown Francine Etched Knives into a successful small business.
The task of etching the blades in the acid spray bath is David's domain. After Francine completes the artwork resist on the blade, David does the actual etching of each knife, using a 1970s era spray circuit board etching machine.
He and Francine collaborate on the design and layout of their promotional emails and brochures. Together, David and Francine have grown Francine Etched Knives into an enduring and respected small business.
